Undergraduate degree programs
1. To be awarded a bachelor's degree, a student must have been enrolled for the period specified by his/her faculty, completed curricular courses established in accordance with the faculty's educational ideals and objectives, earned the required number of course credits, and passed an examination for degree conferral. The curricular courses that must be completed may include not only lecture courses, but also seminars, exercises, fieldwork, graduation thesis writing, and other formats conforming to faculty policies.
2. The primary criterion for passing the examination for degree conferral shall be successful completion of both the liberal arts curriculum offered through liberal arts and general education courses, and the specialized education curriculum formulated in accordance with the characteristics of each faculty.
Graduate school programs
1. To be awarded a degree in a doctoral program, a student must have been enrolled for the period specified by his/her graduate school, undergone research guidance in accordance with the school's educational and research ideals and goals, passed within the specified period a doctoral dissertation screening and examination conducted by the school, and completed the doctoral program. In some graduate schools students may also be required to complete specified curricular courses and earn a standard number of course credits.
2. The criterion for completion of a doctoral program shall be the acquisition of the abilities necessary to function independently as a researcher and engage in advanced professional vocations, and the academic knowledge underpinning those abilities.
3. To be awarded a degree in a master's program, a student must have been enrolled for the period specified by his/her graduate school, completed curricular courses established in accordance with the graduate school's educational and research ideals and goals, earned the required number of course credits, and completed the master's program. To complete the program, students are also required to pass a master's thesis screening and examination conducted by the school.
4. The criterion for completion of a master's program shall be the acquisition of profound and broad-ranging knowledge, research capabilities in the field of specialization, and superior abilities to undertake professional work requiring advanced specialist expertise.
5. Another important consideration when determining completion of graduate school programs shall be whether or not research has been conducted with a strong sense of responsibility and an advanced sense of ethics and contributes to harmonious coexistence within the human and ecological communities on this planet.
Professional graduate school programs
1. To be awarded a professional degree, a student must have been enrolled for the period specified by his/her professional graduate school, undergone education conforming with a curriculum established in accordance with the school's educational ideals and goals, earned the required number of course credits or passed the courses prescribed in lieu thereof, and completed the professional graduate school program.
2. An important criterion for completion of a professional graduate school program shall be the acquisition of both theoretical and practical abilities required of a high-level professional through the curriculum established by the professional graduate school.
3. An important consideration when determining completion of professional graduate school programs shall be whether or not a candidate is a high-level professional with superior general cultivation, advanced specialist knowledge, and a profound appreciation of professional ethics, in accordance with the university's Mission Statement.
