In order to discover and promote exploratory research projects related to humanosphere science, which aims to provide a foundation for sustained survival of humanity, the Center for Exploratory Research on Humanosphere, Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), is inviting researchers to lead or participate in joint projects in "Exploratory Research on Humanosphere Science" as below. The Center looks forward to receiving your application.

Eligibility

To apply to be an Exploratory Research project director, applicants must be:

  • Full-time faculty members at Kyoto University (including fixed-term faculty members) or at other national or public research institutes, or full-time researchers (including those affiliated with a National Research and Development Agency or Incorporated Administrative Agency), who are eligible to apply for Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI), or in comparable positions if based outside Japan
  • Or, deemed qualified to apply for the position by the Director of the Center for Exploratory Research on Humanosphere

There is no minimum age requirement for the project director position, and early-career researchers are especially encouraged to apply.

Each applicant may apply to lead one project only. Those not affiliated with RISH must specify one or more RISH members as their research collaborators and one of them as the "person responsible at RISH" for their project.

Please note the following about applying from abroad to be a project director:

  • Applications may be submitted from outside Japan. Such applicants are advised to consult with their would-be collaborators at RISH and decide on how they would conduct research in their home countries, and agree on a budget plan in advance because all the accounting procedures are to be conducted at RISH. It is recommended that applications from abroad be submitted by the "person responsible at RISH".

Those working under the supervision of another researcher or instructor, such as post-doctorate researchers, may apply to be collaborators. It is advised, however, that they first check to see whether doing so would be permitted by their organizations.

  • When publishing a paper, letter, report, etc based on the accepted research, the project director is asked to list one or more RISH researchers as coauthors, or if that is not possible, mention in the acknowledgments section that the research is supported by RISH as an Exploratory Research on Humanospheric Science project. The director is also requested to send a copy of each published paper, letter, report, etc to the RISH Center for Exploratory Research on Humanosphere.
  • Any invention resulting from the project must be promptly reported to the RISH Center for Exploratory Research on Humanosphere.

Application deadline

Thursday 20 May 2021
