Student Lounge KIZUNA's May event was a bamboo weaving workshop, held on Thursday the 24th with instruction provided by professional craftsmen from Yokoyama Bamboo Products & Co.

The activity focused on creating a shikainamihana -style basket, based on a four-petaled, wave-patterned flower pattern. The basket's relatively simple design made the class beginner-friendly, and the traditional craft-making process enjoyable for everyone.

Participants bent and wove bamboo sticks following the craftsmen's instructions, sometimes moistening them with water spray to make them more flexible. They thus experienced the art of making a craft without any adhesive, as they worked on producing original baskets to take home as souvenirs.

The event provided a great opportunity for everyone to experience a traditional Japanese craft while making new friends.
