Kyoto University Museum Summer Learning Class ("2013 Summer Experience Expo: What You Find in the Museum This Summer Is Fun to Learn and a Pleasure to Understand") (August 7-11, 2013)

Published on

The Kyoto University Museum held its annual summer learning class, the 2013 Summer Experience Expo. In its thirteenth year, the event offered a total of fourteen programs, including five new ones, allowing participants to learn in an interesting way about topics in both the fields of science and the humanities.

Eager participants were drawn to each of the new programs, which were titled "See and Feel Invisible Things around Us," "Experience 3-D Space in a 4-D Digital Space Theater," "Let's Try Kyogen: 'Ha, Ha, Ha! Never Hesitate to Do Good,'" "Aroma School for Kids," and "The Atmosphere of Laughter: Conversations with a Philosopher." Parents accompanying their children were particularly pleased with "Aroma School for Kids."

Aside from these programs, many children applied for the ever popular "Examine Star Sand with an Electronic Microscope" and "Let's Investigate Trilobites."

With an audience capacity of 386 seats, the event drew nearly 1,000 applications. It was the fresh interest coming from the large number of new participants which animated this year's event.

Participants left such comments as "It was a great program that not only children but also parents could enjoy," and "I was happy because I finally won a ticket after applying many times." The event's staff members also left comments, such as "I wanted to be able to show things to children in more plain ways" and "I was impressed that not only the participants but also the instructors seemed to be enjoying the program." For both participants and staff members, the event turned out to be a good opportunity to experience the fun of learning through participation in the activities.
