The 2011 Kyoto University Sports Union Sports Award Ceremony was held at Raku-yu Kaikan.
The award was established in 2007 to honor promising students selected from among the members of sports clubs affiliated with the Kyoto University Sports Union. Its aim is to encourage further development of the university's sports clubs in accordance with the spirit of the Kyoto University Sports Union Code, which states the following: "This Union is established for the purpose of improving physical education as well as encouraging physical activities and sports within Kyoto University, and at the same time, contributing to the physical and mental training and cultivation of character of Kyoto University students so as to nurture promising human resources with academic and moral integrity."
This year, sixteen students were given the award, including nine who received the Sports Union Chair Award and seven who received the Excellency Award.
After an address delivered by Masato Nagata (sports union chair) and congratulatory words from Akihiko Akamatsu (executive vice-president for student affairs), Chair Nagata presented the winners with certificates and commemorative items.
