"Kyoto University Day" Held at Nanjing University and Nanjing Agricultural University (December 2, 2011)

A "Kyoto University Day" was held at Nanjing University and Nanjing Agricultural University in China.

"Kyoto University Day" aims to provide information on Kyoto University and promote academic exchange with Nanjing University and Nanjing Agricultural University while providing information on opportunities for studying at Kyoto University. Presenting at this event from Kyoto University were twenty-eight staff members from the University Head Office and seven schools (Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Agriculture, Graduate School of Informatics, Graduate School of Biostudies, Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies and Graduate School of Management).

In the morning session, Communist Party Secretary Hong Yinxing from Nanjing University, President Zheng Xiaobo from Nanjing Agricultural University and President Hiroshi Matsumoto from Kyoto University gave speeches. Then, after a break, Professor Zhang Junfeng from Nanjing University, a graduate of Kyoto University, and Professor Zhou Yingheng of Nanjing Agricultural University talked about their experiences studying at Kyoto University. Afterwards, a staff member from the Organization for the Promotion of International Relations briefed the participants on an overview of Kyoto University, scholarships, and courses conducted in English. About a hundred participating students eagerly listened to all the lectures.

During the break, President Matsumoto talked with Chinese students in a friendly atmosphere. Many participants eagerly asked questions about scholarships and on how to apply for admission. Even after the closing of the program, students who were not able to ask a question due to the time limit lined up before the staff members accepting questions, showing the high level of interest in Kyoto University.

In the afternoon, a separate space was provided for each graduate school, where an overview of each graduate school was offered as well as information for the enrollment of international students and an outline of international academic exchange programs. Positive discussions toward future research exchange took place and more than 200 students in total came to learn about studying at Kyoto University.

Through the morning and afternoon sessions, a total of more than 300 outstanding Chinese students who participated in the event became convinced of the advantage of studying at Kyoto University.

In addition to individual meetings with the heads of Nanjing University and Nanjing Agricultural University, President Matsumoto was also allowed to meet Vice Governor Cao Wei Xing of Jiangsu Province. Both agreed to further advance the research exchange initiatives between universities in Jiangsu Province and Kyoto University.
