International Exchange Course ("A Changing Southeast Asia: Environment, Industry and Society") (September 5-17, 2011)

Having successfully completed a training program in Thailand, fifteen first- and second-year undergraduate students who participated in an international exchange course ("A Changing Southeast Asia: Environment, Industry and Society") returned to Japan. The program, which started on September 5 and lasted over thirteen days, was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Professor Eiji Nawata and Associate Professor Mamoru Kanzaki from the Faculty of Agriculture, along with the cooperation of Kasetsart University.

During the program, students visited farm fields on steep slopes in the northern mountain areas, farm fields on mild slopes in the central plains, and suburban garden crop farms in the delta, and also interviewed local farmers. Additionally, while visiting various cultural sites, they studied the tropical forest ecosystems of Doi Intanon Mountain in the northern part of Thailand and the Sakaerat region in the northeast, as well as coastal ecosystems in the coastal wetland and utilization of these ecosystem services. In the training sessions held in central and eastern Thailand during the latter half of the program, Thai students also participated and exchanged views with Japanese participants. On the final day, students made presentations on their experiences in Thailand in various formats.

The training program provided students with a valuable overseas experience.
