Canon Inc. is making a donation to the Kyoto University Academic Exchange Scholarship, and the presentation ceremony of the catalogue of the donation and a press conference was held at the Kyoto University Tokyo Office.
Participating in the ceremony were Chairman & CEO Fujio Mitarai, President & COO Tsuneji Uchida, and Executive Vice President & CTO Toshiaki Ikoma from Canon Inc., and President Hiroshi Matsumoto, Executive Vice-President Kohei Shiota, and Vice-President and Kyoto University Hospital Director Takashi Nakamura from Kyoto University.
First, President Matsumoto extended his gratitude towards Canon Inc. for the large donation, and continued to state that this donation will be allocated in part as construction funds for the Center for Development of Cutting-Edge Medical Equipment and Clinical Research currently being built, and in part for international human resource cultivation.
Then, Chairman Mitarai spoke of how researchers of Canon Inc. and Kyoto University are working as one in research and development through the CK Project (Project on Innovative Techno-Hub for Integrated Bioimaging), and his hopes toward the new Center for Development of Cutting-Edge Medical Equipment and Clinical Research.
Following the two speeches, Chairman Mitarai presented the catalogue to President Matsumoto, and the presentation ceremony marked the beginning of a close collaborative relationship between the two organizations.
After the presentation ceremony, a press conference was held with participants of the ceremony plus Office of Society-Academia Collaboration for Innovation Director Keisuke Makino, Graduate School of Engineering Professor Shinzaburo Ito, and Graduate School of Medicine Professor Masahiro Hiraoka. Hospital Director Nakamura started off by introducing the Center for Development of Cutting-Edge Medical Equipment and Clinical Research, followed by Professor Hiraoka who spoke on the CK Project, and then the Q&A session began.
Questions concentrated on medical equipment currently in research and development, showing the level of expectancy of future results.
