Dean of Graduate School of Engineering Pays Courtesy Visit to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia

Kyoto University (KU) Graduate School of Engineering Dean Koichiro Oshima and other KU staff members visited Malaysia to attend an event related to Environmental Science, the Core University Program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Vice-Chancellors' Council of National Universities in Malaysia (VCC). The Program is promoted by the Graduate School of Engineering. During their stay in Malaysia, they paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia Masahiko Horie at the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia.

Dean Oshima was accompanied by Professor Yuzuru Matsuoka, Professor Yoshihisa Shimizu, Senior Lecturer Masashi Osa, and an administrative staff member. They were welcomed by Ambassador Horie and First Secretary Naoto Fukabori.

The visit was made to pay courtesy to Ambassador Horie, who would attend the next day's opening ceremony of the overseas base at the University of Malaya for the "Global Center Of Excellence Program titled Global Center for Education and Research on Human Security Engineering for Asian Megacities (GCOE-HSE)" and the "International Center for Human Resource Development in Environmental Management Put Forth by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) as the Environmental Management Leader (EML) Program." During the meeting, they talked mainly about KU's international initiatives regarding education and research, such as Core University Programs, 21st Century Center of Excellence (COE) Programs, Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) Programs, and Global 30 (G30) Programs. They also discussed educational cooperation between Japan and Malaysia, among other topics. The one-hour meeting was held in an amicable atmosphere.
