On 29 August, KyotoU alumnus Toshikazu Yamanishi — who graduated from the Faculty of Engineering and joined Aichi Steel Corporation earlier this year — won the silver medal in the men's 20-kilometer walk at the 18th Asian Games, held from 18 August to 2 September in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.

As a KyotoU student, Mr Yamanishi belonged to the University's Track and Field Club, and competed in numerous race walk events, winning a gold at the 29th Summer Universiade (Taipei 2017), and a silver at the 101st Japan Championships in Athletics (Kobe 2018), among other titles.
