From 5 through 25 January, the Institute of Advanced Energy (IAE) hosted an internship program, the ASEAN Young Researcher Training Program in the Energy Field, for two undergraduate students from Thammasat University, Thailand. The internship was a collaboration with the Graduate School of Engineering, and supported by Kyoto University under the Wild & Wise Collaborative Learning Program.
The training took place in the Applied Electrochemistry Laboratory, headed by Professor Takeshi Abe, in the Graduate School of Engineering's Department of Energy and Hydrocarbon Chemistry. For three weeks, the interns, Ms Nattida Konginyai and Ms Pakawan Prasatsoong, conducted research on biomass-derived activated carbon as an electrode material for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), reporting on their findings on the 24th.
Ms Konginyai and Ms Prasatsoong also had opportunities to experience Japanese culture, visiting Kyoto's historic sites and tasting local food in the company of their Japanese peers.
These experiences are anticipated to contribute not just to the students' ongoing studies, but also greater research collaboration at the Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology, and Innovation Platform (JASTIP), a KU-led project headquartered in Thailand.
