On 16 June 2026, Professor Yasuto Tachikawa, vice-president for long-term development and planning, and former dean of the Graduate School of Engineering and Faculty of Engineering, was selected by the President Selection Committee (chairperson: Dr Toshio Hirano, professor emeritus and former president of Osaka University) to be Kyoto University's next president.
The term is for six years, beginning 1 October 2026.
