Kyoto University and Africa: Challenges of Fieldworkers , an 18-minute documentary film on KU researchers' past and ongoing endeavors in Africa, is now available online for viewing.

The movie was produced by the Kyoto University Interdisciplinary Unit for African Studies in collaboration with the Research Administration Office (KURA), and premiered at the Unit's kickoff symposium on 11 March. It traces the history of African studies at Kyoto University, beginning with the 1958 expedition to the continent, a first by a Japanese research team. It also highlights some of the numerous KU-led projects being carried out in Africa, including attempts to unravel the mysteries of human evolution and help local communities tap into their potential.
