The KIZUNA event for February is a kintsugi (golden joinery) workshop.
Kintsugi is a pottery repairing technique that is distinct to Japan and reflects a unique approach to breakages and repairs; it treats cracks and chips as part of the history of an object, rather than flaws to be eliminated.
The upcoming workshop includes a brief lecture on the history of this art form and a professional instructor's demonstration, along with a chance to work on repairing cracked and chipped Edo-period cups using lacquer mixed with powdered gold. The finished cups can be taken home as souvenirs.
This will be a great opportunity to experience the traditional Japanese repairing technique and make new friends. KIZUNA looks forward to your participation.
