A ceremony was held on 25 November 2014 to celebrate the opening of the Kyoto University Information Center at the Egypt–Japan University of Science and Technology (E–JUST) in Alexandria, Egypt. E–JUST is a national university established in 2009 by the Egyptian government with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Japanese Supporting University Consortium (JSUC), formed by JICA, dispatches Japanese faculty members to E–JUST to support local education and research activities. Kyoto University is one of four Japanese partner universities involved in the program, together with Kyushu University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Waseda University.

A liaison office operated by Kyushu University on the campus of E–JUST was recently converted into the Joint Japanese Supporting University Office, part of which operates as the Kyoto University Information Center.

The nameplate of the Kyoto University Information Center was placed on the door of the Joint Office during the opening ceremony. The ceremony was attended by delegates from E–JUST and the four Japanese Partner Universities, including Prof Kozo Hiramatsu, advisor to the dean of the E–JUST Graduate School of Innovative Design Engineering and Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University, Dr Koichi Nakamura, Associate Professor in Kyoto University's Center for the Promotion of Interdisciplinary Education and Research (C-PiER) and advisor to E–JUST’s School of Material Science and Engineering, and Dr Kenji Yoshimoto, Program-Specific Associate Professor of C-PiER and advisor to E–JUST’s School of Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering.

The Information Center seeks to contribute to Kyoto University's academic exchange with Egypt and the Arab world by providing information to E–JUST students seeking to study abroad at Kyoto University and also providing information and advice to faculty members dispatched from Kyoto University to E–JUST.
