12th Kyoto University Southeast Asian Forum (Hosted by HAKU) (February 4, 2013)

The Himpunan Alumni Kyoto University (HAKU) held the 12th Kyoto University Southeast Asian Forum at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Jawa Timur, Indonesia.

The Kyoto University Southeast Asian Forum has been held every year since FY 2007, alternating between Indonesia and Thailand, in order to return to Southeast Asian society Kyoto University's academic outcomes highly valued in the world.

With eighty participants in attendance, the forum this year was opened by Dr. Kriyo, serving as the chair. Professor Kosuke Mizuno from the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and Rector Tri Yogi Yuwono from ITS first gave speeches, after which five experts presented lectures, including Dr. Yuzo Ohnishi (special assistant to the president) and Professor Toshitaka Kamai from the Disaster Prevention Research Institute.

Dr. Ohnishi summarized recent news from Kyoto University before giving a lecture on natural disasters and control measures, which proceeded on a spirited note with a lively question-and-answer session at the end.

After the forum, a social party was held at the official residence of the mayor of Surabaya. Participants enjoyed conversations in an elegant atmosphere while strengthening friendly ties.
