Preparations Underway to Establish Kyodai Kenrokukai (Proposed Name) (August 27, 2012)

A discussion meeting to strengthen ties between Kyoto University and alumni (graduates of faculties and graduate schools) residing or working in the Kanazawa area (Ishikawa Prefecture), as well as to form closer ties among the alumni themselves, was held at a hotel in Kanazawa City with the attendance of twelve people, which included graduates of faculties and graduate schools residing in Ishikawa Prefecture as well as university staff members.

Executive Vice-President Yuzo Ohnishi explained the purpose of the meeting and the current status of Kyoto University alumni associations. Then, after self-introductions by all participants, Mr. Hajime Ishida (1975 PhD graduate from the Graduate School of Engineering) summarized the current status of the Kyoto University alumni network--which includes graduates and those who have completed courses--in the Hokuriku region (Ishikawa, Toyama and Fukui Prefecture).

Later, participants vigorously exchanged views on the need for ties among alumni and what those ties should be like, and agreed to establish a regional alumni association consisting primarily of alumni residing or working in Ishikawa Prefecture. The meeting then turned into the first preparatory meeting for the foundation of the regional alumni association.

The participants elected Mr. Hirotoshi Shibuya (president of Shibuya Kogyo Company Ltd., and a 1953 graduate from the Faculty of Economics) as a candidate for the chairmanship and agreed on "Kyodai Kenrokukai" as the proposed name of the association.

The participants also agreed to prepare a list of local alumni (graduates of faculties and graduate schools) and hold the inaugural general meeting of Kyodai Kenrokukai (tentative name) as soon as possible.
