Alumni Network for the Nagoya/Aichi Area Founded (May 31, 2012)

A meeting was held at a hotel in the city of Nagoya to discuss the ties among graduates, as well as those who have completed graduate programs, who reside or work in the Nagoya/Aichi area. Twenty-two participants--which included those graduates and individuals who have completed graduate programs, Executive Vice-President Yuzo Ohnishi and other staff members from the university--also talked about how to strengthen their ties with Kyoto University.

Although many graduates, and individuals who have completed graduate programs, live or work in the Nagoya/Aichi area, which is situated in the central part of Japan with a high concentration of industry and commerce, there are few opportunities for ties across sectors and fields or communication with Kyoto University. Under these circumstances, Mr. Masatoshi Ozawa (1966 graduate, Faculty of Engineering), Mr. Shoichi Nakamura (1967 graduate, Faculty of Law) and Mr. Tsuchio Hosoi (1975 graduate, Faculty of Law) responded to a call by Executive Vice-President Yuzo Ohnishi (secretary general of Kyoto University Alumni) to work together to hold this meeting.

Executive Vice-President Ohnishi began by briefing participants on the intention of the meeting and recent news from the university. Then, all the participants introduced themselves and spoke about the activities of faculty/department alumni associations in the Nagoya/Aichi area. After an active discussion that followed, participants agreed to found an alumni association network for the Nagoya/Aichi area.

They also agreed to meet on a periodical basis to further strengthen ties among faculty/department alumni associations in the Nagoya/Aichi area and their ties with the university.
