2012 General Assembly of Kanto Ryokuyokai (April 20, 2012)

2012 General Assembly of Kanto Ryokuyokai (April 20, 2012)

The 2012 General Assembly of Kanto Ryokuyokai was held on the Shinagawa campus of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, with the attendance of thirty-eight members ranging from the first graduates (1950 graduates) of the former Department of Fisheries (Faculty of Agriculture) to younger generations such as those who graduated in 1997.

Kanto Ryokuyokai is an alumni association comprised of graduates from the former Department of Fisheries or marine science laboratories at the Faculty of Agriculture or the Graduate School of Agriculture, who reside or work in Tokyo (or the Kanto region).

After the general assembly, Assistant Professor Takashi Kitagawa (1996 graduate from the Faculty of Agriculture) of the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Frontier Sciences gave a lecture titled "Bluefin Tuna: Fish with Hot Blood." Later, Professor and former Director Mutsumi Nishida (1972 graduate from the Faculty of Agriculture) of the same institute presented a lecture titled "My Forty Years of Learning about Evolution from Fish." Both lectures were followed by a lively exchange of questions and answers.

The participants further deepened their friendships across generations at a social gathering that followed. The event was successfully concluded when all participants sang Biwako Shuko no Uta, following the introductory verse recited by Mr. Yamashita (1950 graduate, Faculty of Agriculture).
