16th General Assembly of Kyoto University Tosa-Yoshida Alumni and Commemorative Lecture (March 17, 2012)

The 16th General Assembly of Kyoto University Tosa-Yoshida Alumni and a commemorative lecture session were held at a hotel in Kochi City.

Kyoto University Tosa-Yoshida Alumni is an association of Kyoto University graduates residing in Kochi Prefecture. In the lecture session, moderated by Mr. Masui from the secretariat (1984 graduate, Faculty of Engineering) and attended by about fifty members and individuals accompanying them, Professor Kenshi Komatsu from the Radiation Biology Center presented a discussion titled "Nuclear Reactor Accidents and Radiation: Considering Radiation Risks from DNA Damage." In his lecture, which riveted the audience, he gave numerous suggestions and urged everyone to have a correct understanding of radiation risks based on correct scientific knowledge.

After the lecture, a social gathering was opened with a speech by Chair Ohnishi (1969 graduate, Faculty of Medicine) and a toast by former Chair Furuya (1952 graduate, Faculty of Letters). At the end of the party, Mr. Matsuura from the secretariat (1990 graduate, Faculty of Law) led participants in singing Biwako Shuko no Uta all together as a large group with their arms around each other. The meeting was then closed on a happy note.
