Preparations Underway for the Founding of Sri Lankan Alumni Association (February 29, 2012)

In Colombo, Sri Lanka, an information exchange meeting was held, attended by sixteen participants, including Mr. Merrick Gooneratne (president of the Japanese Graduates Alumni Association of Sri Lanka), Emeritus Professor C. M. Madduma Bandara from the University of Peradeniya, Professor P. G. R. Dharmaratne from the University of Moratuwa, and Dr. Asiri Karunawardena (director general of the National Building Research Organisation), who have all studied at Kyoto University; Japanese residing in Sri Lanka who work for companies or universities; and delegates from Kyoto University. The meeting opened with a speech by Executive Vice-President Yuzo Ohnishi, who greeted the participants and briefed them on recent news from Kyoto University.

At the meeting, Executive Vice-President Yuzo Ohnishi encouraged them to organize a Sri Lankan alumni association, which they consequently decided to do.

Mr. Merrick Gooneratne and Mr. Asiri Karunawardena will be the chair and secretary of the new association, respectively. Currently, the two of them are trying to increase the alumni association’s membership.
