The 55th Kyoto University Noh Theatre performance was held at the Kyoto Kanze Theatre in the Sakyo Ward of Kyoto. This performance is held as a commemorative musical performance for the founding of the university and as a extracurricular educational activity for Kyoto University students and teachers every year.
This year's performance featured the Kyogen play, "Sakka(Swindler)" and the Noh drama "kantan". There were great numbers of attendees in the theater. The comical performance during Kyogen filled the theater with laughter and the entire audience seemed drawn into the rich world of traditional arts by the exquisite Noh dance.
Plans are for this event to continue in the future in order that participants can deepen their understanding and interest in traditional performing arts and culture which are not otherwise accessible.
