Meeting with Taiwan KU Alumni Association Members (September 6, 2011)

At the Ambassador Hotel Taipei in Taiwan, Chairman Hsu Minhui and several other members from the Taiwan Kyoto University Alumni Association, consisting of graduates from Kyoto University, had a meeting to exchange opinions with Executive Vice-President Yuzo Ohnishi, Mr. Kazusumi Matsui (Head of Foreign Affairs Planning Section) and secretarial staff members from the Kyoto University Alumni Association.

At the outset, Executive Vice-President Ohnishi mentioned in his greetings the damages sustained by Kyoto University stemming from the Great East Japan Earthquake as well as the university’s recovery and support efforts. He also stated that the theme of the 6th Kyoto University Homecoming Day, scheduled for November 12, would be “Restoration and Support Related to the Great East Japan Earthquake.” He further asked the Taiwan Kyoto University Alumni Association to dispatch Mr. Chen Suying and Mr. Su Xianyang as the speakers of the event’s commemorative lecture in order to talk about the damages caused by the 1999 Taiwan Earthquake and their experiences related to their country’s recovery.

Mr. Hsu Minhui then gave a welcome speech. In the discussion time that followed, alumni members spoke about their requests and hopes regarding the university’s future plans. After a friendly and lively exchange of opinions, the meeting concluded with fruitful results.
