Euro Rakuyukai Gathers at Cambridge University (May 20, 2011)

The Euro Rakuyukai gathered for the second time this year at Cambridge University, England. Chairman Kenichi Soga (1989 master's program graduate from the Graduate School of Engineering) was the central figure in planning the event at Trinity College, following the one in King’s College in May of last year. At Trinity College there is an apple tree to the right of the main gate reputed to be one of the descendants reproduced by grafting an apple tree (the Flower of Kent) that belonged to Isaac Newton, an alumnus of Trinity College.

On the day of the event, guided by Mr. Tomura , a gardener at Trinity College and a ten-year resident in Britain, participants enjoyed punting along the River Cam before having dinner in the Old Kitchen, a traditional hall with a portrait of Newton hanging on the wall. The gathering was attended by eighteen members from not only Cambridge, but also London and Geneva, indicating the growth of Euro Rakuyukai.

Since the second year of its foundation, Euro Rakuyukai has been steadily growing and now has nearly a hundred members from an increasing number of cities around Europe. The members plan to hold more events for further exchange in the future.
