The 60th anniversary meeting of Kyoto University Korea Alumni was held in the city of Seoul, with the attendance of President Hiroshi Matsumoto, who delivered a commemorative lecture at the meeting.
Kyoto University Korea Alumni (KUKA), whose membership is now approximately 400, is the alumni association of Koreans who have graduated from the University. Among about eighty attendees at the 60th anniversary meeting were KUKA Chairman Hong Jong-Pil, who gave opening remarks, and Seoul Rakuyukai (alumni association of the Japanese in Korea) Chairman and Chief of Sankei Shimbun's Seoul branch Katsuhiro Kuroda, and former KUKA Chairman Lim Hyo-Eui, all of whom then made their respective speeches. After that, KUKA Secretary General Lee Chang-Kyun gave a report on KUKA's activities and introduced members of the Seoul Rakuyukai, which has promoted friendly relations with KUKA, and members of KUKA.
President Matsumoto then gave a commemorative lecture entitled "International Strategies of Kyoto University--Combining Cooperation and Competition," presenting the University's current efforts for the internationalization of education, research, and alumni activities, including the progress of exchanges with Korea.
After the commemorative lecture, a speech was given by Foreign Minister and University graduate Seiji Maehara, who attended the meeting during his official stay in Korea.
Finally, Supreme Council Assemblyman of the Grand National Party Chung Woon- Chun, President Matsumoto, and Executive Director/Executive Vice President Yuzo Onishi led a toast, after which participants began to mingle with each other. In a friendly atmosphere, they exchanged memories of their college days, latest news, and wishes for the current University.
