Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi meets with Kyoto University China Alumni and Kyosenkai

July 23 - 24, 2010

During the visit to Shanghai, China, Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi met with the members of the Kyoto University China Alumni and Kyosenkai.

The Kyoto University China Alumni was established in October of last year, with membership of approximately 200 as of now. In addition to Shanghai, it is active in cities such as Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Xi'an.

On July 23, Professor Chih-Hung Chang of Fudan University (graduated from the Graduate School of Science in 1988) who lives in Shanghai, and Mr. Chang Zhou of the Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai (graduated from the Graduate School of Education in 2010) kindly gave a tour of the Fudan University campus, with Professor Xiaoguang Yang of Tongji University (graduated from the Graduate School of Engineering in 1996) joining the party later. We inquired about the activities of the Kyoto University China Alumni in Shanghai, and introduced the Kyoto University Homecoming Day, our efforts toward the alumni roster system, etc.

The Kyoto University China Alumni is currently planning to hold the second "Kyoto University Day" this October, and it was confirmed that the alumni association and Kyoto University would continue deepening their relationship and cooperation.

On July 24, the meeting with Kyosenkai, a Japanese alumni association for Shanghai residents, was held. Kyosenkai was established in September 2002 and currently has 128 members, including Chairman Yoshihiro Koda (graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1980). Aside from social gatherings, they hold family events like golf and bowling.

This day's social gathering (Imadegawa-Kai) was held jointly with the Ritsumeikan University alumni association in Shanghai, with a total of 220 participants. From Kyosenkai, there were 55 members and families, including Deputy Chair Reiji Watanabe (graduated from the Faculty of Engineering in 1984), Secretary Masahiko Ishii (graduated from the Faculty of Engineering in 1985), Secretary Takashi Suzuki (graduated from the Faculty of Economics in 2000), and Secretary Kohei Kamo (graduated from the Faculty of Law in 2002). With games and drawings, the friendly gathering was enjoyed by all, especially the spiced-up university introduction videos.

After the Imadegawa-kai, Executive Vice-President Onishi and other university personnel met with Kyosenkai members, and Executive Vice-President Onishi introduced the Kyoto University Homecoming Day, our efforts toward the alumni roster system, etc. There were first-time participants and former exchange students, so each person gave a self-introduction as well as updates on recent events. There were friendly interactions as well as exchanges of opinions on coordination between Kyoto University and alumni associations.
