Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi met with the Kyoto University North California Rakuyukai

While on a visit to the United States, Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi met with members of the North California Rakuyukai in San Francisco on May 20. The gathering was attended by 15 people, including Executive Vice-President Onishi and two other university personnel.

The North California Rakuyukai was established in 1985 to promote friendship among Kyoto University alumni residing in the San Francisco Bay area. This Rakuyukai plans and holds various events according to the season and the needs of its members, such as lectures, study meetings, picnics, golf competitions and social gatherings, in order to facilitate communication among the participating alumni. They even have their own website (http://www.rakuyukai-sf.com(Japanese only)). They currently have approximately 40 members.

At the beginning of the social gathering, Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi provided current information on Kyoto University, such as the founding of Kyoto University Alumni in 2006, the homecoming day in November of every year, the establishment of the Tokyo Office in September of last year, Rakuyu Kaikan being renewed, and efforts to implement a roster system of alumni. With a toast by Chairman Isao Matsuura (Faculty of Law, graduated 1963), the party began.

All participants exchanged opinions in a friendly atmosphere throughout the gathering, and it was confirmed that the Rakuyukai will continue to be in contact with Kyoto University and further enhance its activities in the future.
