Joint debriefing for participants in four John Mung programs (13 October 2015)

A joint debriefing session was held for students who had recently taken part in one of four John Mung programs: Short-Term Research Program at Harvard University; Short-Term Research Program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Short-Term Research Program at School of Geography and Environment, University of Oxford; and Short-Term Research Program at Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction, University of Cambridge.

Students made presentations on their respective programs and reported on such matters as how research and study activities are carried out at some of the world's premier universities; how students at those universities motivate themselves and how they set their goals compared with the typical approaches of their Japanese counterparts; and how the experience of studying abroad has contributed to self-analysis and self-improvement.

The students shared their experiences and engaged in a lively exchange of opinions with an audience made up of former John Mung program participants and students who are interested in joining a program in due course. They answered questions about the differences in research approaches between overseas and Japanese universities, and about how the participants had formed networks with local students and interacted with them.

John Mung programs coordinator Professor Ruchira Palihawadana concluded the two-and-a-half hour session with her comments on the debriefings.
