Nagahiro Minato named first Provost (1 October 2017)

On 1 October, President Juichi Yamagiwa appointed Dr Nagahiro Minato, executive vice-president for research, planning, and hospital administration, to the newly created position of Provost.

Dr Minato will now serve as both Provost and Executive Vice-President for Strategy Coordination, Research, Planning, and Hospital Administration through 30 September 2018.

About the position

Duties

The Kyoto University Provost is responsible for coordinating the formulation and implementation of University-wide and cross-sectoral strategies, such as those related to the institution's long-term vision and organizational reform, at the request of the President, executive vice-presidents, deans, directors, or other senior officials.

Selection process

The Provost is appointed by the President from among the Executive Vice-Presidents.
