From 1 June to 31 July, the Graduate School of Energy Science (GSES) hosted a for-credit internship program for six undergraduate engineering students from Chiang Mai University (CMU). Support was provided by Kyoto University under the Wild & Wise Collaborative Learning Program.
The interns were each hosted by one of six GSES laboratories to work on projects that had been selected based on their departmental affiliations and interests.
In addition to lab work, the program included field trips to three hydroelectric power stations — Keage, Kisenyama, and Uji — where the students learned about the mechanism of power generation and features of each facility.
They also took part in cultural activities, such as learning traditional dances in kimono at Student Lounge KIZUNA, and visiting the Gion Festival and notable sites around Kyoto with their Japanese peers. These experiences provided the participants with a deeper understanding of local culture.
During the final week, the interns delivered presentations and submitted lab notebooks for grading. Program supervisors, who evaluated the students' work, expressed confidence that the interns would be able to make the most of their training at GSES as they continue their studies in Thailand.
