Associate Professor Nishimura

On 18 September Japan time, Associate Professor Takeshi Nishimura of the Primate Research Institute (PRI) attended an online ceremony to accept the 2020 Ig Nobel Acoustics Prize, awarded to him and four colleagues for successfully "inducing a female Chinese alligator to bellow in an airtight chamber filled with helium-enriched air".

Nishimura is the first KyotoU researcher to receive the prize for work done while at the University.

Established in 1991 as a parody of the Nobel Prize, the Ig Nobel Prize annually honors achievements in numerous categories that "first make people laugh, and then make them think".

The award ceremony is normally held at Harvard University, but was moved online this year due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Details of the winning research and the ceremony are available via the page linked below.
