Important Notice: Kyoto University's Policy regarding New-Type Influenza

Due to the continuing spread of Influenza A (H1N1, often referred to as "swine influenza"), the World Health Organization has raised the official pandemic alert level to phase 5.

In view of the risks involved, Kyoto University has established the following policy with regards to overseas travel. We ask that all Kyoto University students, faculty and staff members comply with the policy.

  1. Regarding overseas travel
    (1) We strongly request that students, faculty and staff members refrain from traveling to countries where an outbreak of the new-type influenza has been reported.
    (2) We request that students, faculty and staff members refrain from, or postpone, trips to countries where an outbreak of the new-type influenza is suspected.
  2. When returning from a country where an outbreak of the new-type influenza has been reported or is suspected.
    (1) We request that you remain at home for a period of seven days (including the day of your return). Faculty and staff members are prohibited from attending work during this period.
    (2) In the event that a fever or other symptoms associated with influenza develop, we request that you follow the above instructions beyond the seven day period.
  3. Measures for those who are currently in a country where an outbreak of the new-type influenza has been reported or is suspected.
    (1) At present, students, faculty and staff members who are currently in countries where an outbreak of the new-type influenza has been reported or is suspected are not being requested to immediately return to Japan.
    (2) We request that students, faculty and staff members currently in such countries obtain information from, and follow the instructions and recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Japanese Embassies in those countries. In addition, we request that such persons take appropriate measures to prevent infection (e.g. mouth rinsing, washing hands, wearing a sanitary mask), and that they stay away from areas with a high risk of infection.
  4. Other matters
    In addition to keeping your affiliated faculty of department office informed regarding your physical condition, in the event that any change in you condition develops, please contact the Kyoto University Health Service, and follow the instructions given. Please do not independently seek treatment through your regular doctor or healthcare provider.
    If you are unable to contact Kyoto University Health Service due to office hours or holidays, please contact a nearby public health center or the Kyoto City Symptoms Counseling Center (hatsu-netsu sodan senta).
