With the social context of education undergoing rapid transformation amid globalization, the spread of information technologies, and changes in industrial structures, education itself is also changing and being subjected to redefinition.
In the face of these trends, research on education is attracting more attention than ever, with not only educational and political organizations but also numerous other sectors of society voicing their own expectations for how it should be undertaken. At the same time, there has recently been increasing recognition of a need for fresh perspectives to consider and explore future directions of education, while possible new approaches have emerged from brain, cognitive, and other sciences.
The present symposium aims to facilitate in-depth discussion on the future of education research as it faces these developments. Speakers include researchers from the UCL Institute of Education and Beijing Normal University Faculty of Education, both of which are research and student-exchange partners of the Kyoto University Graduate School of Education. Dean Shigeru Takami will also share his outlook and vision for the Graduate School.
All those interested are welcome to attend.
