Recently established in California, the San Diego Liaison Office is a milestone Kyoto University achieved as a result of past five-year cooperation and networking by faculty and staff at Kyoto University and UC San Diego, which included two University-wide JointSymposia held in March 2015 in Kyoto ; and in March 2016 in La Jolla, San Diego .
Kyoto University strives for diverse development in pure and applied research in the humanities, arts and culture, sciences, and technology while seeking to integrate these various perspectives in promising and productive ways through the activities of the newSan Diego Liaison Office.
Kyoto University has long maintained a close relationship with UC San Diego. Academic cooperation between the two continues to take hold with the establishment of the Liaison Office.
The Liaison Office is further enhancing and developing research and educational collaborations not only with UC San Diego but also with prestigious hospitals and institutions in the greater San Diego region and in California, as well as with its industry communities and governmental network.
The dialogue and networking resulting from the role of the Liaison Office has already started to show its outcomes in a number of joint publications and new joint-research initiatives.
