Kyoteiko Hiroba ("Partner Universities Square"): lunchtime events for inbound/outbound exchange students (19 and 20 December 2018)

Published on

On 19 and 20 December 2018, the International Education and Student Mobility Division, together with the International Academic Research and Resource Center for Language Education, Institute for Liberal and Arts and Science (ILAS), held a series of events entitled Kyoteiko Hiroba, or "Partner Universities Square", at the ILAS Building.

Kyoteiko Hiroba promotes interaction among students going to and from Kyoto University's exchange-partner institutions. It is also a chance for those interested in studying abroad to learn about available opportunities, and an occasion to help inbound exchange students develop deeper connections with Kyoto University and Japan.

This year's events featured presentations by students from the following universities, discussing their home institutions and countries in English or Japanese: Carnegie Mellon University (USA), the University of Washington (USA), the University of Hamburg (Universitat Hamburg, Germany), the University of Göttingen (Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen, Germany), the University of New South Wales (Australia), the University of Leeds (United Kingdom), the University of Luxembourg, and the University of Iceland. Presentations each day were followed by informal discussion, where attendees enjoyed international networking over lunch.

Over two days, the events attracted approximately 100 students — including 31 from 15 countries outside Japan — indicating a strong interest among the KyotoU community in study-abroad opportunities. The next Kyoteiko Hiroba events are scheduled for 2019.
