A keynote lecture was then given by Professor Xinhe Bao, president of USTC, followed by addresses from Professor Yong Qiu, president of Tsinghua University, and from representatives of USTC alumni, faculty, staff, and students. The ceremony also included a presentation of USTC’s future vision as a "world top-class university with Chinese characteristics".

During his visit, VP Kono also visited USTC's National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, where he met with its director, Professor Yalin Lu, to discuss the potential for future research collaboration.
