Every year, Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo hold intercollegiate games called "Sosei-sen", in which the two universities' official sports teams face off. The opening ceremony for this year's Sosei-sen was held in the Clock Tower Centennial Hall on 27 June 2015.

After the chair of the executive committee for the event, Mr Song Yetao, declared the games open, addresses were delivered by Kyoto University President Juichi Yamagiwa, Professor Shigeaki Oda, President of the Kyoto University Sports Union (KUSU), and Professor Tomokazu Haebara, Executive Vice President of the Tokyo University.

Following the pledge of fair play by Mr Natsuto Sakai, captain of the Kyoto University Football Club, video footage on the teams and events was presented. Vibrant performances, with occasional touches of humor, by the cheerleading teams of the respective universities wrapped up the ceremony.

The ceremony was followed by a reception in the Kyoto University CO-OP Cafeteria on the Yoshida South Campus, where participants enjoyed further interaction in a convivial setting.
