Student Lounge KIZUNA's September event was a cloisonné accessory-making workshop, held on Tuesday the 27th at the Kyoto Handicraft Center in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto.

After receiving guidance from Center staff, participants used spatulas to put glass paste of various colors on copper bases. Despite the delicate and often difficult steps involved, the students seemed to enjoy the process of adding color to designs they had drawn on the metalwork -- flowers, animals, letters spelling out their own names, and other shapes. The decorated pieces were then fired by center staff while the participants enjoyed each other's company, talked and took pictures together. The completed works were then made into elaborate key chains and pendants, to be taken home as souvenirs.

The event proved a great opportunity for everyone to experience a traditional Japanese craft while getting to know new friends.
