The following assistance is intended for students affected by the torrential rains that hit northern Kyushu on 5 July 2017.
1. Second-semester tuition exemption
Those unable to pay the 2017-2018 second-semester tuition due to damage from the disaster may be eligible for a full or partial exemption, depending on the extent of damage sustained.
How to apply
Applications will be accepted beginning September 2017. Details will be posted on the Kyoto University website as they become available.
2. Financial assistance from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)
Those whose places of residence have been completely or partially destroyed in the disaster, resulting in a suspension of their studies, may be eligible for financial assistance from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
Application deadline
Up to three months from the month after the damage in question occurred (ie, 31 October 2017).
