Over 10-11 June, the Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP) held two symposia at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, LIPI), Jakarta.

Kyoto University founded JASTIP in FY2015 with support from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) to promote Japan-ASEAN research collaboration.

The JASTIP Bioresources and Biodiversity Joint Laboratory Kick-off Symposium took place on the 10th to explore "Collaborative Bioresources and Biodiversity Studies for the ASEAN Region". Around 70 researchers from Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand participated to discuss relevant scientific topics as well as innovation and collaboration.

The 2nd JASTIP Symposium "Bioresources and Biodiversity Studies in ASEAN: Contribution to Our Sustainable Future" was held the following day with about 150 participants, including researchers, government officials, and graduate students. The program featured keynote speeches by representatives of ASEAN-based research organizations as well as by KU President Juichi Yamagiwa, followed by a panel discussion, and concluded with closing remarks by Professor Kayo Inaba, Kyoto University's executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and public relations.
