An internship agreement between Kyoto University and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was concluded at a signing ceremony held at Kyoto University on 29 November 2019. A commemorative seminar followed the ceremony.

The internship agreement aims to improve students' analytical skills by providing them with opportunities to work as interns at the OECD and engage in advanced policy-making and research in an international environment. The newly concluded agreement gives Kyoto University's students access to special internship opportunities provided in addition to those generally available. In 2013, the Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS) concluded a similar agreement at the department level, and has been providing its students with special internship opportunities at the OECD. Such opportunities will now be available to all KyotoU students. This university-level agreement will be valid for a period of five years, after which it may be renewed.

The OECD delegates who attended the signing ceremony included Ms Josée Touchette, executive director, Mr Makoto Miyasako, head of the Talent Management and Analytics Group, Mr Sam Holland, talent management analyst, and Mr Artur Olszewski, policy analyst at the Centre for Tax Policy. Attendees from Kyoto University included Professor Shinsuke Kawazoe, executive vice-president for student affairs and library services, Professor Yasuyuki Kono, vice-president for international strategy and director of the International Strategy Office, Professor Kaoru Takara, GSAIS dean, and Dr Kwangmoon Kim, associate professor in the Graduate School of Management.

After the ceremony, a seminar commemorating the conclusion of the agreement was held at GSAIS, during which Executive Director Touchette delivered a lecture entitled "The OECD's Approach Towards Sustainability". The lecture described the ways in which the OECD supports its member countries in their efforts to achieve the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the SDG efforts that the OECD is itself making. During the lecture, Executive Director Touchette asserted that in order to fulfill the SDGs, it is necessary to take action not only at the country-level, but also at the organizational and individual levels. With the participation of approximately fifty people, the seminar, which was facilitated by Professor Eriko Kawai of GSAIS, was followed by a lively question and answer session.
