Tasuku Honjo receives Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award (17 December 2016)

On 17 December 2016, Visiting Professor Tasuku Honjo received the inaugural Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award at a ceremony held in Shanghai, China.

The Award was established jointly by Fudan University and Zhongzhi Enterprise Group in 2015 to honor the achievements of internationally recognized mathematicians, physicists, and biomedical researchers.

The 2016 Award in the Biomedicine category was given to Professor Honjo for the discovery of the programmed death 1 (PD-1) gene, a gene expressed on activated cytotoxic T lymphocytes, and its role in the negative regulation of anti-tumor immune responses.

Professor Honjo shared the honor with Professor James P Allison of the MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas.
