On 1 December 2018, a KyotoU delegation led by President Juichi Yamagiwa paid a courtesy visit to the Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor, or IPB), Indonesia. The group was in Bogor to take part in the Kyoto University International Symposium on Education and Research in Global Environmental Studies, being held at IPB from 30 November to 2 December. The visit began at 11:00, and featured a meeting in the special guestroom of the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), which was the symposium's venue.

The visiting delegation consisted of President Yamagiwa and seven other KyotoU officials, including four deans and Dr Kayo Inaba, executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and public relations. Their hosts at IPB were Rector Arif Satria, two vice-rectors, three deans, and four other executives.

The meeting began with introductions of participants, led on the IPB side by Dr Ernan Rustiadi, lecturer and head of the Center for Regional System Analysis, Planning and Development (CrestPent), and on the KyotoU side by Professor Shigeo Fujii of the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES). Following these, Rector Arif delivered a welcome address, to which President Yamagiwa responded with worlds of greeting.

Participants then discussed education and research collaboration among other topics, until it was time for a gift-exchange ceremony with President Yamagiwa and Rector Arif taking part, followed by a commemorative photo. The party next went to visit an IPB-run store, located within IICC, specializing in food and other organic products developed by the university. Finally, everyone returned to the guestroom for further discussion over lunch.

The courtesy visit concluded successfully, with both sides expressing confidence that the two university's already strong education and research partnership will grow even more active in the coming years.
