On 7 March, Lise Thériault, deputy premier and minister of government of the Canadian province of Quebec, paid a visit to Kyoto University.

Welcoming the deputy premier, two KU executive vice-presidents delivered remarks: Dr Nagahiro Minato for research, planning, and hospital administration; and Dr Kayo Inaba for gender equality, international affairs, and public relations. Ms Thériault then delivered an address as a representative of the province and of McGill University, located in Quebec, stating that the province and McGill University have high regard for the cooperation with Kyoto University. The participants discussed how to promote academic and educational exchange between the province of Quebec and Kyoto University.

Kyoto University and McGill University have already concluded memorandum for academic cooperation and student exchange. KU's Graduate School of Medicine and McGill's Faculty of Medicine, in particular, have concluded a department-level agreement of cooperation. In addition, KU's Center for Genomic Medicine, which is now preparing for international joint/double degree program, is to conclude an agreement on a joint PhD program with McGill.

As EVP Minato and Inaba asked the government of Quebec to further promote academic and student exchange between Kyoto and McGill, Deputy Premier Thériault promised that she would convey the message to the minister responsible for higher education and international academic cooperation and collaboration.

At the end of the visit, a document exchange ceremony took place, where Ms Claire Deronzier, chief delegate of Quebec government office in Tokyo, and EVP Minato exchanged the agreements in the presence of Deputy Premier Thériault
