In 2014, the Kyoto University Institute for Frontier Life and Medical Sciences (inFront) embarked on a five-year project to form an "international research network for virus infections and host responses", with support provided by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) under its Core-to-Core Program. The undertaking has involved active research exchange and collaboration over the past years between inFront and its project partners in the US, France, Germany, Belgium, and the UK toward the creation of a world-class research hub.

To share some of the outstanding results of these efforts, Kyoto University and Imperial College London — one of the participants in the inFront project — are holding their "2nd International Symposium on Virus Infection and Host Response" this March at the Embassy of Japan in the UK. The two-day conference will feature presentations by prominent researchers on their latest work and cutting-edge data with a general focus on "(INFECTION + IMMUNITY) x EVOLUTION".
