Application for second-semester tuition exemption for the 2018-2019 academic year

Kyoto University will accept applications for tuition exemption for the second semester of the 2018-2019 academic year as outlined below.

To those affected by the June 2018 Osaka earthquake or the July 2018 torrential rains:

1. Application process and schedule

The application process consists of the following steps:

  • Step 1) Registration on the Exemption Online Application System (EOAS) *
  • Step 2) Data submission (family details) via EOAS*
  • Step 3) Application (submission of documents)

* EOAS is accessible via Kyoto University Liberal Arts Syllabus Information System (KULASIS).

Notes:

  • Those who chose "Batch (collective application of first and second semester)", and completed all steps in the first semester, do not need to re-register in second semester.
  • If you do need to update information you submitted, login to EOAS and make necessary changes during the Step 1 or Step 2 period, and submit the application form and other required documents, listing the updates, during Step 3.

Step 1: Registration

Tuesday 21 August 12:00 – Wednesday 3 October 24:00

Notes:

  • The above period is for tuition exemption only (the Step 1 period for admission fee exemption/deferment will be announced at a later date. Please refer to the University website.)
  • Registration will be closed from Tuesday 25 September 17:00 to Monday 1 October 8:30.

Notes:

  • Beginning on Monday 1 October 8:30, EOAS should be accessed via "Links" on the KULASIS top page (those who completed Step 1 by this time (via the "New students’ site") need not reapply)
  • Early registration is recommended to avoid heavy online traffic near the deadline

* The "new graduate students" here include current students who are starting a graduate program in October 2018.

Step 2: Data submission

Step 3: Application (submission of documents)

Monday 15 October – Friday 19 October

(Mailed documents must arrive no later than 19 October at the office in charge)

How to apply

Obtain the specified envelope, fill in information as instructed, enclose the required documents into it, and submit it to the applicable office or the Student Affairs Division.

2. Eligibility

Eligible applicants are regular undergraduate and graduate students who:

  1. have excellent academic records but find it difficult to pay tuition fees due to economic reason(s),
  2. find it extremely difficult to pay tuition fees because the person chiefly responsible for their academic expenses ("Academic Expense Supporter") has passed away, or the students themselves or Academic Expense Supporter have suffered major damage from wind, flood, or other disasters within six months prior to the payment due date, or
  3. have circumstance(s) that are deemed by Kyoto University President to be comparable to 2.

Notes:

  • Students who have received disciplinary action within six months prior to the start of the semester or at the time of the application are ineligible. If a student receives disciplinary action after applying, that student's application will be invalidated.
  • The Academic Expense Supporter may in some cases be the actual student.

3. Application results

Results will be announced on EOAS around late January.
