Applications for second-semester tuition exemptions begin in September

Kyoto University will begin accepting applications for tuition exemptions for the second semester of 2016-2017 as follows.

For those affected by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake:

How to apply

The application process consists of the following steps:

Step 1) Registration on the Exemption Online Application System (EOAS)
Step 2) Data submission (family details) via EOAS
Step 3) Application (submission of documents)

EOAS can be accessed via the Kyoto University Liberal Arts Syllabus Information System (KULASIS).
The above process also applies to those expecting to start a master's or doctoral program from the second semester. Submitted applications will remain valid across programs.

Application periods

(Step 1) Registration

From Monday 12 September 9:00 to Tuesday 4 October 24:00

(Step 2) Data submission

From Friday 7 October 9:00 to Friday 14 October 17:00

(Step 3) Application (submission of documents)

From Monday 17 October to Friday 21 October

(Mailed documents must arrive at the office no later than 21 October)
Note:
  • Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Those who applied for tuition exemptions for both semesters of the 2016-2017 academic year (Batch) during the 2016
    first-semester need not reapply.
  • However, those who wish to update the information they had originally submitted must do so via EOAS during the "registration"
    or "data submission" phases indicated above, and resubmit their application documents.

Eligibility

Applicants must be regular undergraduate or graduate students who:

  1. Have excellent academic records but are unable to pay tuition due to economic reasons.
  2. Find it extremely difficult to pay tuition because the person chiefly responsible for their academic expenses ("Academic Expense Supporter") has died, or because the students themselves or their Academic Expense Supporter has suffered major damage from wind, flood, or other natural disaster within six (6) months prior to the tuition payment due date.
  3. Are under circumstances that are deemed by Kyoto University President to be comparable to the above.

Caution

  • Those who are behind in their tuition payment are ineligible to apply
  • Those who have received a disciplinary action within six (6) months prior to the beginning of the applicable semester, or are under one at the time of the application, are ineligible, as are those who receive a disciplinary action after submitting an application
  • Those who apply for an exemption but then pay the tuition will be considered to have withdrawn their applications

Application results

Application results will be announced mid-January 2017 via EOAS.
