The 61st Kyoto University Future Forum was held at Kyoto University's Clock Tower Centennial Hall, with a lecture given by guest speaker Mr Takashi Mitachi, Senior Partner and Managing Director of the Boston Consulting Group Japan, who is a graduate of Kyoto University's Faculty of Letters.

Mr Mitachi argued that now we are entering an age of transformation in which the world will continue to change drastically over the coming decades due to three major factors: demographic changes, the digital revolution, and the financialization of all aspects of life. By looking back into history, Mr Mitachi presented his views on what kind of leadership qualities would be necessary for the age of transformation and on issues that ought to be addressed for a better future.

Following the lecture, the audience gave various positive feedback such as: "Mr Mitachi's analysis on the trend of the times is so persuasive that it opened up new perspectives for me to understand our era", "The lecture gave me a great opportunity to think deeply about trends in the world", "The role of leadership has become clear for me while listening to the lecture", "I rediscovered the significance of studying history and of learning things on the ground", and "The lecture taught me the importance of having real experience and first-hand knowledge on the ground, so I am now determined to gain such experiences or knowledge as much as I can from now on".
