Provost Minato attends Peking University’s 120th anniversary celebration, visits Tsinghua University (3–5 May 2018)

On 4 May 2018, Professor Nagahiro Minato, provost and executive vice-president for strategy coordination, research, planning, and hospital administration, attended the 120th anniversary celebration of Peking University, and the Beijing Forum 2018 in Beijing, China.

Kyoto University and Peking University concluded a general memorandum for academic cooperation and exchange in 1983, and have since maintained an active research and education partnership.

Peking University's anniversary celebration was preceded on 3 May by a welcome reception, providing Provost Minato with an opportunity to meet with delegates from numerous universities.

The cerebration ceremony on 4 May was held in the morning at the Khoo Teck Puat Gymnasium, with over 500 presidents and vice presidents from more than 100 educational institutions attending from forty-four countries and regions. The event was followed in the afternoon with an opening ceremony and reception party for the Beijing Forum 2018 at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

On 5 May, Provost Minato visited Tsinghua University, another of Kyoto University partner institutions, and met with Vice President Xue Qikun to discuss future research and education collaboration between the two universities. He also visited Tsinghua Holdings Corp, Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tsinghua University, learning about its operations and best practices regarding the application of the university’s research for the benefit of society.
