Institute for Integrated Radiation and Nuclear Science hosts commemorative ceremony and reception (27 May 2018)

      On 27 May, the Institute for Integrated Radiation and Nuclear Science (KURNS) commemorated its reopening under the new name with a ceremony and reception in the Kansai Airport Conference Halls.

      The ceremony began with KURNS Director Yuji Kawabata delivering a speech and commemorative lecture on “Building an advanced research platform for integrated radiation and nuclear science”. Congratulatory addresses were then delivered by: Nagahiro Minato, KyotoU’s provost and executive vice-president for strategy coordination, research, planning, and hospital administration; Tomonori Nishii, director of the Scientific Research Institutes Division of the science ministry; Mitsuru Uesaka, president of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan; Yasuhiro Iye, executive director of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS); and Toshiji Fujiwara, mayor of the town of Kumatori.

      The reception continued with opening remarks from Hajimu Yamana, president of the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation . Hideo Nakajima, director of the Wakasa Wan Energy Research Center, then gave a toast. Congratulatory speeches were delivered by: Tomoko Nakanishi, commissioner of Japan Atomic Energy Commission; Tomofumi Nagae, vice president of the Physical Society of Japan; and Akio Takahashi, president of Japan Atomic Industrial Forum, Inc. The event wrapped up on a high note with a closing address from KURNS Deputy-Director Ken Nakajima.
